Giant 2nd Pass

I went back and started over from the beginning. I really hated that last version so I took a hit on my time to start doing something I like. I hope it turns out to have been a good move.

Giant 1st Pass

This is just keys. It looks pretty terrible. The timing is way off and I don't know if I even like the action that I'm doing. I want to go on longer but it's not a good idea.

Shoes

This is from my clothed figure drawing class. My teacher asked if he could keep this to use as an example of the right way to do the assignment.

The assignment was first to draw a series of feet in different poses and second to draw shoes over those feet on tracing paper. If you look closely, you can see the feet underneath.

Run

More homework from my character animation class. I'm trying to really push myself this semester. Expect to see a lot more posts.

Walking

We were assigned walk cycles for my new character animation class 2. I'm getting used to doing them.

Pixar Class

No Pixar class for me. 2 times now.

Jenny showed me this video. It seems to be directly connected to what I'm thinking about.

Quote of the day...No. Of the... something

It is much better to be creative than it is to be cautious.
Scratch that. More like;
It is much better to be creative first and cautious second.

Animation

Here's a quick little piece of animation I did for a business to help describe the services they offer. There's no audio here. I only did the animation.

Some Old Stuff From Work

Here's some of the random stuff I used to do when I worked at a cellphone game company a few years back. There was a lot of down time. Microsoft Paint filled some of that time.

Note to self 2.

This might seem obvious to most other people, but I just came to realize this:
Works of art are not created, they are developed.
Most works, in any format, begin about as mediocre as what I've done so far. What makes something worth looking at or appreciating is the work that's put into it from there. Art Work is equal parts Work to Art.
I think people have been screaming this at me for several years now but now I have taken it in.
At this point, though, my school career seems to be nothing more than a series of deadlines. Homework deadlines, end of semester deadlines, deadline for applying for the class I want which means deadline for cleaning up all of my shabby work, and graduation deadline which means demo reel deadline so that I can get a job.I'm more stressed now about the future than I've ever been. Hopefully getting on track with this can help.

It's much easier to say the right things than to do them. Hopefully coming back and reading this will help with the follow through.

Note to self.

It has just recently dawned on me that everything that I've done so far in school has been rather mediocre.
I've been looking back at everything I've done and nothing is really worth putting into a demo reel or portfolio.
Nobody really reads this blog so I figure this is an opportunity for me to speak to my present and future self.
I know that just graduating will not get me a job. I'm absolutely certain that I can do better than this but I haven't been. Hopefully this will be the turning point where I start reaching for  my full potential.
Time to get back to work.

Muse

Here's an assignment from my Figure Drawing class. I got a B+ on it. These drawing classes seem especially tough when you have illustration majors in there with you.   They make my stuff look terrible in comparison.

A couple things

I've been super duper busy this semester. Here's a few of the many things I've been doing.

This was an assignment for my animation class. The teacher said the arm is taking too long to settle, like it's dead weight.

This was another assignment for my animation class. The teacher didn't have any complaints.

This horse thing is something I just did on my own time. There's a lot of work left to do. This is just a first pass.

These are my anatomy study drawings for my Figure Drawing class. My teacher said they're pretty good.

End Of Semester Round Up

This is a load of stuff I did for my Perspective class this semester, including a little sketch of the professor. Joko is one of the best teachers that I've had so far.

This is the final for my Maya 1 class:

This is the final for my Intro to hand drawn animation class (I'm working on cleaning up and coloring now):

Here's a couple of things I did for my figure modeling class:

I submitted this as my attempt to get into an animation class, at my school, taught by Pixar animators. I haven't heard any response back, so I'm guessing I didn't make it. I'll just shoot for it again after this semester:

Quite possibly the very last Frank post....

I've got some very good memories of working with this character. I spent close to two years on it. That's kind of insane thinking back now. All that for a few seconds of animation. I would like to continue with this until it's completely finished but the character is so flawed in it's construction that I'd probably be better off starting from scratch.
This piece of animation was me getting my feet wet; my first walk cycle. I learned an awful lot from it.
I'm including this one in my demo reel that I need to apply for a particular class next semester. Wish me luck.
I'll be putting up some more computer animated stuff shortly.
